India and Australia are all set to face each other in the all-important opening Test at the Perth Stadium, starting November 22. India will be without their skipper Rohit Sharma for the match, and it’s Jasprit Bumrah, who will step out for toss on Day 1 of the West Test. Bumrah has led India only once in Test cricket, back in 2022 against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
India are also looking to select an opening partner for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the absence of Rohit. KL Rahul, Abhimanyu Easwaran and Dhruv Jurel are being thought about as options for Jaiswal’s opening partner. In the fast bowling department, Bumrah will lead in the absence of Mohammed Shami, who recently returned to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy.
For Australia, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne are likely to hold the key. Travis Head has been a brute force in the middle-order and his role is going to hold a lot of importance. Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are likely to pose a massive threat. Nathan Lyon has also been a tireless servant for Australian cricket over the years.
India have played at WACA plenty of times in their history on Australian soil, but they have played only once at the Perth Stadium. Australia, on the other hand, have had a dominating run at the new stadium in Perth, having not been beaten even once. Hence, it goes without saying that India have their task cut out before the Perth Test.
4-0: Australia have won all four of their Tests at the Perth Stadium.
4-0: Teams batting first have won all four Tests at the Perth Stadium.
4-0: Teams winning the toss have won all four Tests in Perth.
0-1: India have lost their only Test at the Perth Stadium by 146 runs back in 2018.
598/4 (declared) – Australia hold the record for the highest first-innings score that they got against the West Indies back in November 2022. It’s also the highest team total at the Perth Stadium.
333 – West Indies made the highest score in the fourth innings at the Perth Stadium after making 333 back in November 2022.
102 – Number of wickets fast bowlers have taken in Tests at the Perth Stadium. Mitchell Starc is the leading wicket-taker, having taken 23 wickets at an economy rate of 2.87 with a five-wicket haul to his name.
37 – Number of wickets taken by spinners at the Perth Stadium in Tests. Nathan Lyon is the top wicket-taker at the venue, having taken 27 wickets with two five-wicket hauls.
204 – Marnus Labuschagne has the highest individual score at the Perth Stadium back in November 2022. Steve Smith also scored 200 in the same Test against West Indies.
123 – Virat Kohli is the only Indian batter to have scored a hundred at the Perth Stadium.
24-8-56-6: Mohammed Shami holds the record for the best bowling figures at the Perth Stadium back in 2018.
